Pop Star Hid His Affair with This Man for 39 Years – They Had a Secret Wedding When He Was 71
Barry Manilow, born Barry Alan Pincus, rose to fame after his hit “Mandy” and captivated millions of female fans. Despite his public persona, it came as a shock when he revealed his 39-year relationship with a man, Garry Kief, whom he married at 71.
Manilow was once married to his high school sweetheart, Susan Deixler, but their union ended after two years. He admitted, “I was out making music every night… I wasn’t ready to settle down.” His career took off, and in 1978, he met Kief, who became his manager and the love of his life.
For decades, Manilow kept his relationship and sexuality private, fearing fans’ reactions. He said, “It was very difficult to do that [back then]… it would have [resulted in] a very negative article.” Despite the secrecy, their relationship thrived.
Manilow and Kief married secretly in 2014. Manilow later expressed relief when fans reacted positively to the news. He shared, “I could not be prouder of being a gay man and having a beautiful life and a great partner for 40 years.”
Today, their relationship remains strong. Manilow’s openness about his sexuality has paved the way for others, showing that honesty and love can coexist with a successful career.
