This stunning lady went from an unknown actress to an Academy Award-nominated star overnight
Katharine Ross, an overnight sensation and Academy Award-nominated star, is best known for her role as Elaine in “The Graduate.” Born on January 29, 1940, in Hollywood, California, Ross’s journey to stardom was marked by talent and determination. Despite her successful career, her personal life was tumultuous, with five marriages before finding lasting happiness with actor Sam Elliott.
Ross’s acting career began in theater and television Westerns, eventually leading to her iconic role in “The Graduate.” She continued to shine in “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.” Her personal life, however, was more complex. Her first four marriages ended in divorce, but her fifth marriage to Sam Elliott, which began in 1984, has endured.
Ross and Elliott met on the set of “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid” but reconnected ten years later on “The Legacy.” Their shared passion for acting and a deep mutual respect have kept their relationship strong. Now 83, Ross lives a quieter life, splitting her time between California and Oregon with Elliott. She has also authored several children’s books, showcasing her versatility beyond acting.
