Candace Owens sparked online controversy after she called Fulton County, Georgia, District Attorney Fani Willis a “Ghetto Superstar” during her podcast on February 16. Owens argued that Willis exemplified the failures of DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) hires, suggesting these policies prioritize appearances over competence.
Social media users reacted strongly, with many accusing Owens of hostility towards her own race. However, some defended Owens, criticizing Willis for alleged misconduct. In her podcast titled “STOP EVERYTHING! Fani Willis Is A Ghetto Superstar,” Owens featured a black Trump supporter who dismissed the charges against him as “a bunch of bulls**t.”
Owens criticized DEI policies, claiming they suspend intelligence in favor of filling quotas, and stated, “I now feel certain that the biggest argument against DEI is Fani Willis.” She referenced Willis’ indictment of former President Donald Trump for alleged election interference in Georgia in 2020.
Willis has been under scrutiny for an alleged inappropriate financial and romantic relationship with special prosecutor Nathan Wade, whom she hired for the Trump case. Owens highlighted Wade’s costly billing of over $650,000 to Fulton County and mocked their relationship, suggesting it was corrupt. She also mentioned Wade’s sudden divorce and the sealing of divorce records, implying the funds were used for their romantic endeavors.
